The Jazz at the Griff series, presented by Trail & District Arts Council, brings you The Rick Lingard Quartet. Enjoy the jazz club vibe as you savour a glass of wine in a setting that is up close and personal.

The Rick Lingard Quartet features Rick Lingard as lead vocalist and saxophonist, Juno award-winner Mike Rud on guitar, Tony Ferraro on drums, and Doug Stephenson on bass. The band’s members have played with great artists both locally and internationally.

Previously the music director at Mt. Sentinel Secondary School for over twenty-five years, Rick Lingard now owns and operates the Kootenay Music Academy (KMA) – a private music school offering a broad range of music instruction as well as recording arts. He was an instructor at the Selkirk College Contemporary Music and Technology Program and a member of many music festival organizations both locally and provincially. Rick's past bands include No Excuse, The Atlantics, Playmor Junction Big Band, Hornography and What It Is. Rick has assembled orchestras and directed the music for: “Into the Woods”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Footloose”, “The Sound of Music”, “Fame”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Cabaret”, “Rock of Ages” and “The Fantastiks” among others.

Mike Rud is a Juno award-winning jazz guitarist and songwriter. He is also a music instructor at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. As an instrumentalist, Mike has played alongside some of the greatest jazz musicians of the era like Peter Bernstein, Kenny Wheeler, Herb Ellis and Joey DeFrancesco. As a songwriter and arranger, Mike won the 2014 Juno Award for his album “Notes on Montreal”, a critically acclaimed musical portrait of the city.

Tony Ferraro is a diverse, musical drummer that is at home with all styles of music. After achieving Percussionist of the Year at Humber College in Toronto, his desire to immerse himself into many different genres has led his musical journey in a variety of directions. Whether playing rock with Juno Award winning Idle Eyes, Classic Canadian rockers Trooper, and The Spoons, or laying down the cultural grooves of Alpha Ya Ya Diallo, Elizabeth Shepherd, Michael Occhipinti, Melody Diachun, or Argentinian pianist Gabriel Palatchi, Tony is an exciting player to hear and to watch, always bringing his passion and intensity to the music he is performing. Doug Stephenson has been an integral member of Western Canada's music community for over thirty years. The Calgary native is a guitarist, bassist, songwriter, and producer. He has performed with a wide range of artists including Melody Diachun, Charlie Rouse, Bob Murphy, Les McCann, Jay Thomas, John Stowell, Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, Altered Laws, Barry Romberg, Bob Brough, Campbell Ryga, and Blues legend Big Miller.
